The June 2014 concert, The Sounding Sea: O Beautiful Forever! invites the listener to contemplate the infinite ocean and the experience of an earthly world through the lens of such wonders as the Northern Lights, a stormy sea or the expanse of wide waters. The concert opens with a set entitled, The Blue Estuaries, by David Ashley White, a smart and elegant setting of exquisite texts wherein the audience will hear the words, “O beautiful forever” open the program in a glorious opening cadence. Veljo Tormis’ Virmalised (Northern Lights) and Incantation for a Stormy Sea access the brilliant depths of sound and effect that can be achieved by the men’s and women’s forces. Drop in the Ocean by Erik Esenvalds and Past Life Melodies by Australian composer Sarah Hopkins provide gravitas while Erik Whitacre’s Water Night serenely captures the true depth of still waters. The concert concludes with the King Singers’ soulful and stately Horizons, a lush arrangement of Oh Shenandoah and an elegant setting of The Water is Wide featuring harpist Virginia “Suki” Flanagan.

Tickets are $20 in advance at Now You’re Cooking in Bath; Gulf of Maine Books in Brunswick; and Longfellow Books in Portland and $25 at the door.  Tickets may be purchased at our website: www.voxnovachamberchoir.com Please bring your printed receipt for proof of purchase.
