I love reading this post written by Jim Palmarini for the September 15th blog post on the Americans for the Arts Artsblog. I couldn’t agree more with what Jim says about what arts educators who are referred to as “specialists”. Jim is the director of educational policy for the Educational Theatre Association. Jim says: “arts educators are not specials, electives, extras, enrichments, non-academics, add-ons or encores teachers. They are education essentialists, just as much as any other recognized core subject area professional teaching a rigorous, well-defined, and assessable body of knowledge and skills that prepares students for college, career, and citizenship.”
