Flashmob

This flash mob features various musicians as well as the popCHORn choir which is composed of about 30 singers of various ages. The choir first formed in 1910 with only men. In 1922 woman were included and in the 1930’s it was banned by the Nazi regime. It reformed in 1945 and has flourished since. This Eric Clapton song is a great example of how music brings people together and is important to the participants and audience.

Flash Mob

Elementary and high school students

I love the genuine joy on the faces of many of these elementary and middle school students performing the Toreador song from Bizet’s Carmen. Not only are the performers enjoying it but the smiles on the audience is wonderful. Talk about an advocacy tool – this one is a natural! Enjoy and consider sharing with your students, children, and colleagues.

U.S. Air Force Band at Smithsonian

December 28, 2014

One year ago, flash mob with style

Starting with a single cellist on the floor of the National Air and Space Museum’s “Milestones of Flight” gallery, and swelling to 120 musicians, The U.S. Air Force Band exhilarated museum visitors with its first-ever flash mob. The four-minute performance featured an original arrangement of “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring/Joy to the World,” led by the band’s commander and conductor, Col. Larry H. Lang. Unsuspecting museum visitors including tourists and school groups were astonished as instrumentalists streamed into the gallery from behind airplanes and space capsules, and vocalists burst into song from the Museum’s second floor balcony.

I wonder how many seeds were planted in the minds of the children visiting the museum on that day?! My favorite part was the trumpets bursting with sound from the balcony.

Greek Flash Dance

July 21, 2014

Wonderful video on YouTube

Many of you know that I am Greek. When Karen Montanaro sent me this link I am guessing that she had no idea how much it would move me. I had tears streaming down my face and before I knew it I was on my feet dancing. If you ask me, it is the best Flash Mob ever! The Ottawa Greek Festival committee used the opportunity to promote their upcoming festival. Enjoy!
