Kaitlin Young

The 2018 Maine State Teacher of the Year Kaitlin Young was highlighted in an article for the Maine Educator Magazine. Kaitlin teaches music at SeDoMoCha School in Dover-Foxcroft. In addition to the article, Kaitlin is also on the cover of the February edition. Kaitlin is a Teacher Leader with the Maine Arts Leadership Initiative (MALI) and her full MALI story will appear later on this blog later on this spring.

MALI Teacher Leader Carmel Collins

What is Teenage Stress and Anxiety? Congratulations Carmel Collins! This is the title of an article written by dance teacher Carmel for the Maine Educator, December 2017. Carmel is a Maine Arts Leadership Initiative Teacher Leader and teaches dance and visual arts in Lake Region Schools.

Carmel includes a list of general behaviors and techniques that will help students manage anxiety and stress. Included in the list is: Do things you enjoy. For example: art, listening to music, being outdoors, dancing, writing poetry, reading.

In the latest edition of Maine Educator the cover includes a high school dancers and the title of the article found within called “6 Reasons Students Need the Arts” located at It is great to see Maine Arts education receive the coverage. Some of our Maine Arts Assessment Initiative Teacher Leaders are included along with other Maine arts teachers and students in action. The entire article starts on page 30.
