Wicked visual art summer opportunity

Monson Arts is offering Maine art educators a 25% discount on its 2023 summer workshops.  Monson Arts, established by the Libra Foundation in 2018, offers residencies for artists and writers, community based programs, and summer workshops.  This year’s workshops include offerings in audio, mixed-media, painting, weaving, and writing.  There is also 24 hour studio access. Besides ample studio spaces and newly renovated accommodations, participants eat all their meals at The Quarry Restaurant.  It’s the only restaurant in Maine to be a finalist for a James Beard Foundation award this year.

MAEA Conference

Professional Development at it’s Finest

RSU #40 Art teachers Brooke Holland and Anthony Lufkin have been busy planning the annual Maine Art Education Association Fall Conference at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and Monson Arts. This is the first conference being held at Haystack since September 2019, hence the theme. The conference is scheduled for September 16-18, at both Haystack and Monson locations. Registration opens on June 1 and you can prepare by reviewing the workshops that are being offered and the conference details. The cost is $295.00 (for MAEA members) and includes workshop, room, and delicious food. Some workshops have an additional materials fee. Registration opens June 1st so get ready! Studio descriptions are on the MAEA website now and are looking for volunteers to be studio assistants. If you are interested in being an assistant please respond to this google form. Assistants will be assigned on a first come first serve basis and will receive priority registration.

Intensive Summer Workshops

Monson Arts in beautiful Monson, Maine is offering one-week intensive summer workshops. They provide an ideal environment to focus on learning and studio work. Taught by instructors renown in their field, these classes are designed to give participants unhindered time where they don’t have to think about anything other than making. Monson Arts provides all meals and the option of housing right in town within walking distance to all of our facilities. Studios are open 24 hours.

Monson Arts is eager to have art teachers participating in their programs and will document workshop hours to support your certification needs. They are offering a 25% discount for workshops to Pisacataquis County residents.

During July and August 2019 Monson Arts will be offering eight workshops in a variety of media from drawing and painting to writing and audio production. A typical workshop includes 10-15 participants and they are able to host two workshops at a time in their facilities. Sessions begin with dinner on Sunday night and conclude with lunch on Friday. Workshops are open to anyone 18 or older and working at any level from beginners to advanced professionals. Enrollment is on a first-come first-served basis.
