Screen Savers Images Announced

Twenty Maine student artists will have an audience of more than 70,000 students and educators for their artwork starting this fall.

More than 200 students submitted images to be considered for the Maine Department of Education (DOE), Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) Screensaver Challenge.

An annual tradition of the Maine DOE, students in grades PK-12 can submit artwork at the beginning of the year to be selected for display. The images are scored and selected by an independent panel of three judges.

The winning student artists will have their art work showcased on MLTI devices for the 2017-18 school year. In addition, the student artists will have their registration fees waived for the 2017 MLTI Student Conference, and their winning pieces will be printed and displayed at the Department of Education’s Augusta offices from June 1 – August 31, 2017.

Congratulations and thank you to the many teachers who provided this opportunity for their students.

Over the last seven years, the MLTI device has featured 20 outstanding student works of art each year, with over two thousand pieces of artwork submitted.

The opportunity to have your artwork displayed on MLTI devices is again available for Maine students grades K-12. Works of art will be submitted and reviewed by an independent committee using a rubric (available online). MLTI asks that students submit only ONE piece of artwork to be considered for the 2016-2017 screensaver. We have posted the guidelines on our website – please take careful note of the sizing and labeling requirements. Submissions not meeting these requirements or students submitting multiple works will not have their artwork reviewed.

The deadline to submit artwork for this challenge is January 1, 2016 at 5:00pm.

The students whose artwork is selected will have their artwork displayed on 2016-2017 MLTI devices and receive free Student Conference registration (May 26, 2016) when registering with a school team. Student Opportunity

Over the last six years, the MLTI device has featured screen savers featuring outstanding student works of art (twenty each year). To date, there have been well over two thousand pieces of artwork submitted. WOWZER! Currently images are made available as a screensaver download on the following MLTI Devices: HP ProBooks & Apple MacBooks.

The opportunity to submit artwork is available to Maine students in grades K-12. MLTI asks that students submit only ONE piece of artwork to be considered for 2015-2016 MLTI devices. Please take careful note of the sizing and labeling requirements. Submissions not meeting these requirements or students submitting multiple works will not have their artwork reviewed. The deadline to submit artwork for this challenge is January 2, 2015. Works of art submitted will be scored by an independent review committee using a rubric.

The students whose artwork is selected will have their artwork on 2015-2016 MLTI Devices, receive free Student Conference registration (May 21, 2015) and also have their artwork printed and displayed at the Department of Education in the spring.

Please submit your artwork to Juanita Dickson. Anyone can submit the artwork (guardian, teacher, student, etc), but please be sure to include the following information in the email:

  • Student name
  • School name
  • Grade
  • Teacher (Adult) name & email address (this is who we’ll contact with result)
  • Artwork title

Don’t forget to read the guidelines! If your picture is not properly sized/submitted, it can not be considered for the challenge.

MLTI Artwork Challenge Timeline

  • January 2, 2015 – Submissions due.
    Please email your submission to Juanita Dickson at juanita.dickson@maine.gov. Confirmation of receipt will be emailed to you.
  • January 3 – January 20, 2015 – Selection committee reviews submissions using a rubric.
  • January 25, 2015 – Teachers of the students with selected pieces will be notified by this date. A release form will need to be signed by parents and sent back to MLTI before any names are released to the public.
  • February 15, 2015 – Release forms due to back to the MLTI Project Office
  • Late February 2015 – Selected artwork information released to the public.
  • May 21, 2015 – Student Conference. Selected students will be invited to join us at the Student Conference free of charge (students will need to complete online registration)

MLTI screen saver student opportunity

Over the last four years, the MLTI device screen saver featured eighty outstanding student works of art (twenty each year) with over one thousand pieces of artwork submitted.

This opportunity is once again available for the 2013-2014 Screen Saver. Works of art submitted will be on display in a Studywiz Gallery where students and teachers may vote for and critique the artworks. The two works receiving the most votes (stars) will automatically be entered into the group of 20 finalists. An independent review committee will score the remaining pieces of artwork using a rubric (available online). The 18 artworks receiving top scores from the committee will be submitted to the finalists group as well.

Most schools have active Studywiz accounts for staff and students. Please check with your MLTI Tech Lead for more information. If you do not have a Studywiz account you will be issued an account to post the work. Your Tech Lead can create accounts – please keep in mind it takes 24 hours for a Studywiz account to become active so don’t wait!!

This opportunity is open to Maine students in grades K-12. MLTI asks that students submit only ONE piece of artwork to be considered for the 2013-2014 screensaver. Please take careful note of the sizing and labeling requirements. Submissions not meeting these requirements or students submitting multiple works will not have their artwork reviewed or voted on. The deadline to submit artwork for this challenge is December 17, 2012!

The students whose artwork is selected will receive free Student Conference registration (May 16, 2013) and will have their artwork on the 2013-2014 MLTI Screen Saver.

This opportunity once again is available for the 2012-2013 Screen Saver Image. Works of art submitted will be on display in a Studywiz Gallery where students and teachers may vote for and critique the artworks. The two works receiving the most votes (stars) will automatically be entered into the group of 20 finalists. A group of independent judges will score the remaining pieces of artwork. The 18 artworks receiving top scores from the judges, will be submitted to the finalists group as well.

The students whose artwork is selected will be recognized at the MLTI Student Conference to be held May 24, 2012 at the University of Maine, Orono. The 20 artists will be receiving free conference registration and will have their artwork projected on the big screen at various times during the event.

Timeline

  • December 23, 2011 – Submissions due. Teachers/Students can vote in Studywiz until January 11, 2012! Don’t forget to remind them to log in and vote!
  • December 24, 2011 – January 11, 2012  Judging by independent judges.
  • January 11, 2012 – Voting and judging ends!
  • January 14, 2012 – Teachers of the students with selected pieces will be notified by this date. A release form will need to be signed by parents and sent back to MLTI before any names are released to the public.
  • January 25, 2012 – Release forms due to back to the MLTI Project Office.
  • February 2012 – Selected artwork information released to the public.
  • May 24, 2012 – Student Conference. Selected students will be invited to join us at the Student Conference free of charge (students will need to complete online registration).

Submitted artworks may be:

  • Photography
  • Photographs of artwork (2 or 3 dimensional)
  • Scanned works
  • Digital art
  • Due to the paperwork involved with identifiable human faces we will not allow any piece which will require model release forms. This means no photographs of recognizable human faces, please.

Submissions must be:

  • Landscape orientation
  • Digital format 1152×870 pixels
  • Without images of people (which would require a model release)
  • Submitted by December 23, 2011

When submitting:

  • Label the files properly with: Title of Artwork_StudentFirstName_StudentLastInitial_School_Teacher Initials
  • Ensure files are the proper orientations/size, as files that are not properly sized will not be judged (see .pdf on sizing)

Artwork that is not properly labeled, sized or submitted on time, will NOT be judged. Students who submit more than piece of artwork will be not be included in the judging.

This opportunity has been provided during the last two years and will once again for the next school year. Please encourage your students to participate by submitting a photograph to be eligible. There artwork could be selected for all the MLTI laptops throughout the state. Please look for the details in the next few days. YAHOOOOOO!
