Vox Nova Chamber Choir

 “The Four Seasons: Spring Equinox

Vox Nova Chamber Choir presents its third installment of The Four Seasons concert series with a performance Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 3:00 PM at The Orion Performing Arts Center, Mt. Ararat Middle School, 66 Republic Ave., Topsham.

The music for Spring Equinox celebrates nature’s awakening from winter. Hyems’ “Be Gone, Winter!” heralds the departure of the frozen season. Stephen Paulus’ “Spring” and “Afternoon on a Hill” herald the earth’s rebirth through her flora and fauna. White’s “Blue Estuaries,” “Nightingales” by Finzi, Tippet’s “Dance: Clarion Air,” provide traditional fader while the whimsical “Language of the Birds” accompanied by string quartet and composed by Australian composer Veronika Krausas pokes fun. Ole Gjeilo’s “Across the Vast Eternal Sky” highlights rebirth with imagery of a fiery sunset representative of the phoenix.

Vox Nova Chamber Choir (Est. 2009) under the direction of Dr. Shannon Chase, champions the expansive body of modern and contemporary choral repertory.

The Four Seasons: Winter Solstice

This season was inspired by the artistry of Ed Buonvecchio, Maine landscape painter.

Vox Nova Chamber Choir and INTIMA present their second of a four-concert series with performances Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 7:30 PM at The Franco Center, 46 Cedar St. in Lewiston and Sunday, January 21, at 3:00 PM at Studzinski Recital Hall, Bowdoin College, Brunswick.

The music for Winter Solstice heavily evokes both the wildness of nature and the cultivated aspects of the season. Stephen Paulus’ “Evensong” and “Auld Lang Syne “are seasonal and the other repertoire is natural and highlights the extreme beauty of northern landscapes: Ēriks Eŝenvalds’ “Northern Lights,” Ola Gjeilo’s “Tundra,” “Winter Light” for Chorus and String Quartet by Michael Gandolfi, John Muehleisin’s “Snow” and others will create a vivid, wintry landscape for the audience.

Vox Nova Chamber Choir (Est. 2009) under the direction of Dr. Shannon M. Chase, champions the expansive body of modern and contemporary choral repertory.

Inscription of Hope

VOX NOVA CHAMBER CHOIR TO PRESENT CONCERT

INSCRIPTION OF HOPE

Vox Nova Chamber Choir presents the second installment of their Musica Pro Pace: The 2017 Peace Concerts series on Saturday, June 24 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, June 25 at 3:00 PM in the Orion Performing Arts Center in Topsham, Maine.

The concert entitled, Inscription of Hope, memorializes powerful sentiments of hope and love found etched into a Nazi concentration camp wall by Jewish prisoners and presents music indicative of peace and the enduring human spirit. In contrast, music set to the visceral and even appalling prose of Dylan Thomas’ Ceremony After A Fire Raid, reveals brutal realities of the horrors of war. The program is ultimately designed to transport the listener on a journey of mind and spirit as expressed through the prayers and hopes of humanity.

Vox Nova Chamber Choir (Est. 2009) under the direction of Shannon Chase champions the expansive body of modern and contemporary choral repertory and brings performances of new music to Maine audiences. Sponsored by HM Payson.

Since its inception, Vox Nova Chamber Choir has performed more than 120 choral works, all from the modern and contemporary choral repertory. The program is comprised of encore performances of some of the choir’s best and most essential works.
The idea of sound as its own element, one that is far less tangible than the four elements (earth, wind, fire, water) that typify our concrete existence on the planet, is made manifest in concert via a balanced program of works that have come to typify Vox Nova’s unique sound and ethos as a performing ensemble: the choir’s niche being modern and contemporary choral repertory.
